Sustainability At Lost Little One
Sustainability at Lost Little One
We’re a small business with a big heart. We use terms like ethically conscious and slow fashion - but what do they really mean? We think it’s time to reintroduce ourselves.
Slow, slow fashion
Lost Little One is designed in Melbourne, made in Morocco and consciously crafted every step of the way.
Our products are made by hand by local artisans in a small community tannery in Morocco, using techniques that have been around for more than 800 years! We exclusively use vegetable-tanned leather - an ancient method of treating the hides that produces beautiful high-quality products free from harsh chemicals.
The process is long, technical and uses only natural ingredients - safer for the planet, and safer for our artisans. It can take anywhere from three weeks to six months to complete, meaning it can’t be mass produced and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Using leather like this creates products that feel good, are unique and age beautifully. You can truly feel the difference.
Small batch, classic pieces
This slow method of production means that we only order what we really need. We handcraft in small batches of 50 at a time, and we endeavour to create and restock our classic collection that we know you love.
Our designs are timeless, trans-seasonal, unisex pieces in earthy colours that we’re confident will suit every adventure. They’ll always look good and feel good - a piece of art that you can love for a lifetime, and pass down with your stories.
Pre sales
We know everyone loves a sale - but we like to do things differently.
Our sales revolve around our slow fashion ethos. We offer 15% off our most popular pieces while they’re being crafted before we get them in stock. Sound weird? We don’t think so! Having a pre-sale like this gives our customers a chance to purchase a sold out design at a discount, and then receive it 4-8 weeks later with the knowledge that it’s been handcrafted just for them
We’re super proud of our small batches, and we love that our customers are too!
Our Journal Collection
During lockdown our founder Dominique got busy designing a collection that’s handcrafted right here in Melbourne. Partnering with a leather tannery in South Australia, we use vegetable-tanned kangaroo leather to make completely bespoke leather journals. The tannery uses eco-tech - sustainable processes that aim to reduce their environmental impact as much as possible. They treat, recycle and reuse all their waste water and consistently reduce their heating and power emissions each year.
Made to order
The Journal Collection is 100% made to order. The South Australian tannery batch dyes leather just for us, as we need it! David in SA sends it to Dom in Melbourne who handcrafts each piece in the studio, using leather-working techniques learned in Morocco.
Every product is able to be personalised. After ordering, Dom will get in touch with you to discuss your dreams for the piece - making it special to you. The process can take up to 30 days to complete, and the result is a product that’s completely one of a kind.
Want to know more?
Lost Little One will always be an ethically conscious small business that cares about the planet and its people at every step of the way. We know exactly where, how and by who each of our pieces were crafted. If you have a question about your piece or our processes, we’d love to answer it for you.
